Belfast landlords losing thousands in rent - why?

Belfast landlords are losing thousands of pounds in rent but they continue to haemorrhage money even when it is explained to them. So what are they doing that is losing so much money?

Well, time and time again we deal with landlords, almost exclusively that manage a rental themselves who leave a property of the market for lengthy periods of time so they can "save" money on doing or arranging their own repairs or maintenance. They refuse to get a tradesman or contractor in, or won't allow us to arrange one as they think they are saving money by either doing the work themselves or waiting to get the cheapest job possible. Meanwhile the property is sitting with no rent coming in. With the average rent now being over £800, that is over £200 per week when a house sits empty. We have seen landlords sitting with empty properties for over 6 months recently and in one case the rent is £1,000. That is a whopping £6,000 lost because the landlord is trying to make a saving getting the cheapest job possible. In most cases the saving, if any, is far less than the extra rent that would have been received.

When we manage properties for landlords we get jobs done quickly at competitive rates, and even if it isn't the absolute cheapest job in the world, we are always getting the landlord a better return by minimising voids.
