A Welsh home seller has revealed this week that he unknowingly sold his house to one of the FBI's most wanted. Aled Evans sold his house in Conwy, North Wales to fugitive Daniel Andreas San Diego for £425,000. Although he used a false name, the suspected domestic terrorist was eventually tracked down by UK police and arrested. He is now awaiting extradition to the US.

What is unclear is how San Diego circumvented tight anti-money laundering regulations. Both his conveyancing solicitor and the estate agent involved would have been required to conduct "know your client" checks. This should have included physical and electronic identification, as well as enquiries on the funds. However, as San Diego had been on the run for fifteen years, it is possible that he established a new identity and had been building the credibility of that.
