Fraudsters are continuing to steal money by intercepting emails between property buyers and their solicitors, then sending bogus emails advising the buyer of a "change" in bank account details. The buyers are then duped into sending funds to the fraudster's bank account....never to be seen again. The amounts can be either deposits or the full funds. Recently first time buyers in Middlesex lost £94,000 that they thought they were transferring to thier solicitor to purchase their first home. Preventing the fraud is however relatively simple. Buyers just need to telephone their solicitors and check that the emails are genuine and the bank account details are correct. Better still, visit the solicitor's office and get the bank details in person. Selling your home? Did you know that Key One Property fee is only 0.5% inc VAT? Subject to T&Cs. Tel 9045 6162.
