Labour say they will regulate estate agents
In a pre-election pledge, Labour say that they will "regulate" estate agents, except that they already are. All estate agents are regulated by a redress scheme which effectively governs their professional standards, HMRC regulate agents for anti-money laundering regs, Trading Standards regulate agents for fair practices, and the Advertising Standards Authority regulate agent marketing (just look at the number of times they have intervened with misleading ads from Purplebricks). In addition, some councils also regulate agents relating to property licensing so really Mr Starmer what more are you going to regulate?
Well Labour say that in addition to all the other regulations, agents will need to be qualified. Interestingly this is supported by PropertyMark, who co-incidentally provide such qualifications. There is no substitute for experience in this industry but if you are happy with a 19 year old straight out of uni to sell or let your home, then work away Sir Keir!
